Prioritize Your Prior Learning

Undergraduate Transfer Requirements
All transfer applicants are required to submit official transcripts of their high school and college records. The acceptance of transfer credits is at the sole discretion of Champlain College. A student may be awarded transfer credits up to the following:

  • One-fourth of the total credit hours toward a certificate
  • 45 credit hours toward an associate degree
  • 90 credit hours toward a bachelor’s degree

The typical Champlain College Online bachelor’s degree transfer student brings in over 30 credits – that translates to one-quarter of the required credits. Ways to earn those transfer credits include:

  • Prior college experience
  • Professional training and certification programs
  • Credit by examination programs & alternative credit providers
  • Prior learning portfolio assessment of life and work experience
  • Military training

Graduate Degree Transfer Requirements
Graduate-level transfer credits are awarded on a strictly limited basis. Credits awarded from prior graduate-level college courses are accepted based on equivalent course content and learning outcomes, and the grade must be a “B” or better. Credits for experiential or non-collegiate learning may not exceed 25% for credentials between 12 and 30 credits.

Frequently Asked Transfer Credit Questions

You may still have questions about transfer credit and how it works at Champlain College Online. Below are answers to some of the questions we are asked the most.

Following a student’s application submission, and before an offer of admission is presented, a transfer credit evaluation is performed on an individual basis. This includes a review of official transcripts from all higher education institutions attended. Champlain College’s transfer credit team will identify the program requirements that have been fulfilled on a course-by-course basis to determine transfer credit eligibility and the amount of eligible transfer credit.

Students who transfer from another college may be awarded up to 45 credit hours toward an associate degree, and up to 90 hours toward a bachelor’s degree. In order to be considered for transfer credit at the undergraduate level, the grade equivalency of a transfer credit must be “C” or better.

Transfer credits at the graduate level are awarded on a strictly limited basis and the grade equivalency must be a “B” or better. Credits awarded for experiential or non-collegiate graduate-level learning may not exceed 25% for credentials between 12 and 30 credits.

Under Champlain College’s umbrella of Credit for Prior Learning *redirecting to site – students have the opportunity to gain transfer credit for the following: prior college experience at a community college or other regionally accredited institution, professional training and certification programs, credit by examination programs and alternative credit providers, prior learning portfolio assessment of life and work experience, and military training.
